Our correspondent at the United Duck Nations General Assembly reports that the debate was very heated. There was nothing else being talked about, it’s was all an alternation of: “kwaak, mak-mak, وق وق ,بطبطة, par-par, kuak-kuak, pnak pnak, па-па, coac-coac, mec-mec, qüec-qüec, 嘎嘎, 呱呱, kva kva, káč káč, rap rap, kwak kwak, kwaak kwaak, quack, prääk prääk, prääks prääks, kvaak kvaak, coin coin, quak quak, κουάκ κουάκ, גַּע־גַּע, háp háp, bra bra, bheac bheac, kwek kwek, qua qua, ガーガー, қақ-қақ, 꽥꽥, pēk pēk, kva kva, ква ква, पक पक, braaaq caaq, kvakk kvakk, mak-mak, kwa kwa kwa, quá quá, quak quak, mac mac, кря-кря, mhàg mhàg, fàg, ràc, квак, cua cua, kvack kvack. kwak kwak, kua kua, ก้าบ ๆ, vak vak, ках ках, cạp cạp.”
What made the ducks warm up? I turned to two of the greatest experts in duck languages and duck sounds.
Wio: “The ducks are talking about a new album on Almost Halloween Time Records, it’s called “Verenigde Eenden Naties” and it will be published soon.”
Weiland adds: “according to the Belgian duck the musical connection between Tim and Wio dates back to the late 1990s when they became label mates on kraak (then (K-RAA-K)3). At the time, Tim was operating under the name Ovil Bianca, while Wio was making records with de portables and solo under the name Wio. Two decades later, around 2020, they began exchanging recordings, resulting in, for example, Tim’s contribution to Wio’s Brummagem Brilliance LP on Almost Halloween Records and the palindromic split tape droommoord / moorddroom on Gazer Tapes.
Weiland and Wio approach music from different angles. Tim creates with a passion for sound and experimentation, exploring the boundaries between musicality, drone, and noise. Wio, on the other hand, is first and foremost a songwriter who doesn’t shy away from a touch of mellowness and whimsiness.”
Wio claims with certainty to have heard a duck say: “This record brings those two worlds together, both musicians challenging the other (and themselves) to explore new sonic terrains.”
