One of the first stories I told my daughter was the one in which Gulliver arrives in Lilliput. In my version Lemuel leaves from Bristol towards the Indies on a vessel carrying beer destined for the English colonists, not just any beer but India Pale Ale. Hops, I explained to her, are excellent and the Indies are far away… The ship will never reach its destination and liters of beer will end up in the sea to the delight of the fishes.
I thought of my Gulliver when I painted this cover for “Eels and Smiles” by Little Whirls. A container carrier carrying huge crates and cases of beer.
