At Almost Halloween Time Records we have great things in store for you.
The news of the forthcoming release of Linda Smith’s new album has already leaked a few weeks ago. Test presses have been approved and we are waiting for the courier to deliver a box full of records to our door. It’s a matter of days. ”Untitled 1-10 Plus 1”, this is the title of the record, will be available in two versions. One with covers painted by me and one with covers painted by Linda. Yes, because Linda is also a fantastic painter and I’m contagious. Copies with the covers painted by Linda can be ordered directly from her, you can preorder the Almost Halloween Time Records version here.
What you don’t know yet is that there is more.
“A Collection Of Two Releases: On The Death Of Science As A Major World Religion and Finding The Straight And Level” by The Cadets. Started in Jacksonville, FL in 1995, The Cadets have released music sporadically ever since. AHT is releasing or reissuing or reworking “A Collection Of Two Releases: On The Death Of Science As A Major World Religion and Finding The Straight And Level” in an edition of 50 copies, in collaboration with Science Project Records. Indie rock, surf, experimental, psychedelic pop, all condensed into an album.
“Distels” by Distels. Annelies MonserĂ© and Steve Marreyt have teamed up to record a folk classic. Distels is the Dutch word for Thistles (English) and Cardi (Italian). Wild Thistles are delicious and just a few days ago my mother cooked some and and I was able to eat them au gratin, fantastic, but I’m digressing. Everything is imploding, the world might need some consoling traditional folk, we thought. I have had this record in my hands for a while, one night I dreamed of the Distels playing one of the songs on the album in a place that resembled a church. A prodigious performance. From that moment on, the production of the album has undergone an acceleration.
“Songs From Room 9” by Kitchen cynics. The return of Kitchen Cynics on AHT. Before I released “Wooden Bird”, mine was a normal, ordinary label, I slept like a baby every morning and the only drawings I drew were scribbles on pieces of paper that my hands drew distractedly and unconsciously during a phone call. Kitchen cynics, I can say with certainty, have changed my life, not only because of the greatness of their music, they have really changed my habits.
Don’t try to count the number of Kitchen Cynics releases, even the discography on my own I Hear Strange Music is incomplete. Just think that a few years ago, Kitchen Cynics released 12 albums in one year, each containing the exact number of songs to accompany the listener on each of the days of the year.
“Sssssss! 2” by Sssssss! Imagine you puncture a tire on your car in the middle of the desert. Around you the vastness of nowhere, a few cacti, the carcass of a car, and over your head a couple of mouth watering vultures. Suddenly you hear a Sssssss! End of story. The first time I heard Sssssss! play I was in the United States and in my wandering that time, I crossed a couple of deserts, one at the end of a journey of over seven hours, from Yosemite to a house somewhere between Pioneertown, CA and the Joshua Tree desert. When I started to see the finish line, it was night, I saw a guy with long hair and a beard, without a shirt, with jeans running along the roadside, in the darkest of all nights. No light around foreshadowing the presence of a house. Yes, maybe, I was tired .. Sssssss! are Rick Bunce, Jill Baron, Rich Jones, Mon Akiko Jones, Maddelleine Grae and Gerry Hernandez.
