Custom Corona Bundle

Record Label Owners Turn To Monsters

A few weeks ago while I was social distancing on the sofa of my living room, I read a post from Lovers Turn To Monsters announcing a new project called ”Custom Corona Bundle” or ”A custom Bundle in celebration of our impending doom”.
The advertisement promised custom Lttm gear, a one in existence Lttm EP including a cover you can pick for a total of 5 songs, a mix tape of tunes, some art and some other stuff.
How could I resist temptation? I love Lovers Turn To Monsters and Kyle from the day he sent me a cover of a Franklin Bruno. His debut on Almost Halloween Time Records is only of a few years ago ‘though, when I invited him to contribute a song to the Crock Rot compilation, from there it has been a continuous, an ep of songs that is the perfect companion to the It’s Halloween Time compilation, a cover of a Secret Stars tune for the Imaginary Donkey compilation, an ep of songs done in collaboration with Caleb Fraid (a companion to the Road To Istanbul compilation, soon to be released), a song for Lodger Doll Three, the tribute to Guided By Voices and Bee Thousand.

All incredibly awesome…

So when he announced a custom ep, I had no other choice and ordered mine.

And since it is an axiom that lovers turn to monsters… I made it really difficult for Kyle.

I requested two covers: an Italian song from the beginning of the twentieth century that was obsessing me and has always been ringing in my mind since I first heard it and another Italian song from 1967 written by Belgrado Pedrini in the Fossombrone jail that I first heard covered by Matt Elliott in an occupied squat. ”Bruceremo Le Chiese” and ”Il Galeone”

Of course I wasn’t expecting Kyle to sing in Italian and I’m not that cruel… (although Matt Elliott sang ”Il Galeone” in Italian)… so I provided translations of the lyrics too.

The result is gorgeous and credible, as if Kyle had been burning churches all life long and had been a silly anarchist punk.

I’ve got five songs in total, a mixtape, a booklet, stickers, two photographs and a letter…

This is certainly one of the most precious items in my collection of records.

Apparently Kyle has recorded or is still recording 12 different eps. An approach similar to what I do with artworks and covers… and this is another reason of why I love Kyle and Lovers Turn To Monsters.

Shall I try to contact the people who are the lucky owners of the other 11 eps?
I’m really tempted.

Kyle is not uploading the songs or sending them to anyone else.
